The United States of America
Poor and Sad
Thousands of
immigrants are approaching our border as a group. Although in a group of
possibly 8,000, this is still not as many immigrants as we had crossing our
borders on the early 2000’s. Many of these immigrants come from loving,
caring families who are now desperate. Our president calls them bad, bad people, and tells us that will need to send our military to close our
borders instead of calling upon relief organizations to help these people.
Two years
ago there were approximately 579 million people in North America. We are
supposedly a nation with more than 560
billionaires. As a nation it appears that we are poor and do not have the
resources, to sort and support 8,000 immigrants. Is this because these
people are desperate, poor and the wrong color? As a nation, we do a very good job of keeping and delegating both
legal immigrants on visa's/green cards and illegal immigrants to second class citizen status.
The plaque
at the base of the Statue of Liberty reads: “Give me your tired, your
poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your
teeming shore,” she wrote. “Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me; I
lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
I feel ashamed!
